Diabetics are more likely to get gum disease

Recent studies revealed that almost 15% of Indian urban population is suffering from diabetes. Along with other causes like heredity, stress, obesity, diet; chronic gum infections also play a significant role to develop or aggravate the diabetes (mainly type 2 diabetes mellitus). Let's see how gum problems contribute to the diabetes.....

The bacteria found in diseased gum (commonly featured as collection of deposit, fowl breath, redness, bleeding gum etc) entered the blood stream and inhibit the action of insulin produced by our pancreas. And as we know, lower amount or lower activity of insulin results in diabetes.
On the other side, elevated blood sugar level lowers down the body's natural immunity to curve down different diseases including the gum disease.
Hence, it can be concluded that gum infections help to rise the diabetic profile and the vice-versa.
You must have a periodic check up of your gum condition to tame the diabetes (along with the diet and medication advised by your physician)
